When Charlotte and James made the move to Liverpool back in 2022, they quickly fell in love with living nearby one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and wedding venues, the spectacular Sefton Park Palm House. What started as a lighthearted joke during a casual visit soon became reality. After James popped the question, both agreed that there was no better venue to bring their dream wedding to life than under the lush glass dome of the Palm House.
Married in June 2025, Charlotte and James crafted a relaxed, personal celebration filled with homemade charm, botanical beauty, and plenty of heart. If you are a bride-to-be considering Sefton Park Palm House as your dream Liverpool venue, Charlotte’s day offers the ultimate inspiration for creating an unforgettable, personal day.

Meeting, Proposal & Choosing Sefton Park Palm House
Charlotte and James first matched on Bumble in 2019 while both living in Reading. After relocating to Liverpool, Sefton Park became a cornerstone of their routine.
For couples searching for alternative or iconic venues in the city, Sefton Park Palm House stands out with its soaring glass ceilings, vibrant tropical plants, and bathed-in-light atmosphere. It provides a naturally stunning backdrop that allows couples to keep decor simple, laid-back, and uniquely theirs.
“We moved to Liverpool in 2022 and visited the Palm House often as we lived close by. I jokingly said to James that when we got married in the future, I would like to get married there. Luckily he proposed and agreed that the Palm House would be the perfect venue for our day.” — Charlotte
Thoughtful DIY & Personal Touches
One of the standout features of Charlotte and James’ wedding was how effortlessly they incorporated DIY elements to give their day a warm, relaxed feel:
- Lego Love: To honor James’ passion for Lego, the couple featured custom Lego flower arrangements on table settings and topped their cake with a adorable Lego bride and groom!
- Handcrafted Floral Design: In a true family effort, Charlotte and her parents spent the day before the wedding creating all of the bouquets, buttonholes, and bud-vase displays using fresh blooms sourced directly from M&S.
- Bespoke Cake Sign: Charlotte’s sister crafted a charming handmade “Just Married” sign to crown the wedding cake.

The Beauty Vision: Crowned Like a Princess
Because Charlotte doesn’t wear much makeup day-to-day, her goal was to look like her elevated self, polished, glowing, and completely comfortable.
Finding the right hairstyle meant staying true to what felt natural. While we experimented with an updo during the trial, it instantly became clear that wearing her hair down in soft, flowing waves was the way to go.
“As I don’t wear makeup every day, I wanted to look like myself but also feel special on my wedding day. I knew I wanted to have my hair down, so I am glad Vicky styled it perfectly! Once it was done, I felt like a princess!” — Charlotte

Having previously met Charlotte when styling her for another wedding as a guest, creating her bridal look felt like catching up with an old friend. As a Liverpool wedding makeup artist, I have done so many Sefton Park Palm House weddings over the last 15 years, and I’m very familiar with its special environment. Because it is a glass house filled with tropical plants, the atmosphere is always warm and humid, which doesn’t always play well with makeup and hair. I make sure to use certain primers and setting sprays and hair products for my Palm House brides that I know will stand up to the temperature and humidity of the climate.
For Charlotte, the morning prep set a relaxed tone for the rest of the day. Her favourite moment was sitting back, soaking in the excitement, and watching her bridal party get pampered before taking her seat in the makeup chair.

Highlights & Words of Advice
From their romantic first dance surrounded by greenery under the glass canopy to the quiet moments shared with loved ones, Charlotte and James’ day was a complete triumph.
Charlotte’s top advice for couples currently navigating their wedding planning:
“Try not to sweat the small stuff! It can be overwhelming organizing lots of different things and waiting for them to come together on the day. However, if something doesn’t go quite to plan, I can guarantee that no one will notice.”
