When Carri and I decided to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal, we knew we wanted something truly special—a celebration that reflected who we are as a couple. Scale, nestled in Liverpool’s Fabric District, was the perfect venue for our disco-inspired, colourful, sparkly, and party-focused day.

Scale’s NYC loft-like vibe, with its exposed brickwork and reclaimed wooden floors, created a chic yet warm atmosphere. Having worked there as one of their recommended makeup artists and participated in their wedding fairs, I already knew it was a hidden gem. Zara, Lauren, and the Scale team went above and beyond to make our day unforgettable.

A Day Full of Love, Laughter, and Sparkle
The ceremony was the highlight of our day. In front of our closest friends and family, bubbly in hand, Carri and I reaffirmed our love for one another. Our incredible celebrant, Wendi Surtees-Smith, made the ceremony personal and fun. We exchanged rings imbued with the positive vibes and wishes of our guests and lit a candle to symbolize our unity. As a quirky twist, we painted a canvas together during the ceremony, a keepsake we’ll cherish forever.
Having a celebrant-led ceremony was one of the best decisions we made. It allowed us to craft a celebration that was uniquely ours, filled with personality, warmth, and fun. Wendi’s creativity and energy ensured the ceremony reflected our love story perfectly. We loved the freedom to include personal touches, like passing our rings around for guests to bless and painting a canvas together. It was a beautiful reminder of why we fell in love 25 years ago and a chance to reaffirm our commitment in a way that truly felt like us.
Music was central to the day. We walked down the aisle to “Lips Like Sugar” by Echo and the Bunnymen, and after saying “I do” (again!), we danced up the aisle to Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”—straight to the bar for celebratory tequila shots!
Personal Touches and Stunning Details
Our decor reflected our vibrant personalities. Silver candlesticks from my grandma, who sadly isn’t with us anymore, added a meaningful touch. The venue’s industrial-chic aesthetic perfectly complemented our disco-themed decorations. While we’re not the best at dressing a venue, the Scale team helped us bring everything together seamlessly.
The food—oh, the food! Down the Hatch wowed our guests with a fully vegan menu featuring mac and cheese, noodles, and salt and pepper fries. And the cakes from Cakehole? Simply the best vegan cakes you’ll ever taste. Guests are still raving about both!
The Glamorama Experience
Of course, I couldn’t resist giving myself the full Glamorama treatment! I handled my own hair and makeup, ensuring I felt red-carpet-ready. I also had the honour of doing Carri’s hair and makeup. They’re non-binary and love being glam just as much as I do, and they looked absolutely fabulous.
